The Conservation Carousel at the Akron Zoo, located in Akron, OH, was designed to highlight a continental theme. In addition to being a fun ride, the carousel also serves to educate patrons as the native continent from which each animal hails.
The Carousel hosts 33 figures representing endangered animals from all seven continents. Making their figure debut on the Akron Zoo Carousel are Carousel Works newest figures including a Parrot, Baby Moose and a Wolf Cub. Patrons can also choose to ride the fanciful Peacock Chariot, which is wheelchair accessible.
The Akron Zoo’s Conservation Carousel was made possible through generous gifts from numerous donors. You can see their names in personalized plaques at the base of their sponsored animals. The carousel is located near the Komodo Kingdom and also has a pavilion, ticket booth, picnic area, rocking chairs and benches. Informational panels and a large world map showing where each of the 33 carousel animals comes from surround the ride.
In harmony with the overall continental theme design the carousel’s “center surround” features one-of-a-kind, original hand-painted murals highlighting animals native to all seven continents as well as the continents themselves.
